SEO School is going cheapIn case you hadn’t heard, Naomi Dunford is selling her ebook, SEO School – and a bunch of other stuff – at discounted rates until February 5th.

I’m a big fan of Naomi’s work, probably because we have so much in common. For example, she’s a successful small business marketing consultant who recently moved to England. Likewise, I’m a successful small business marketing consultant. I recently moved to England. See, it’s uncanny how similar we are.

Anyway, on to the book. SEO School is good. Actually it’s very good. I know this because I bought it – on sale for $19 because I’m too cheap to pay the full $39.

Unlike the other 3 Search Engine Optimization books I have on my bookshelf, I bought this one because I knew it would be short, brutally honest and funny. Oh, and it also explains SEO (another plus, but not essential for an SEO book).

Here’s what you get with SEO School:

  • 53 digital pages.
  • A very clear explanation of what search engines want to see.
  • How to figure out what keywords to rank for.
  • How to get to the top of Google.
  • How blogging helps your SEO campaign.
  • Why analyzing your online competition, while more boring than an Enya concert, is necessary to figure out how to “screw the other guy”.
  • A picture of a ninja.

In short, if you’re a microbusiness owner and you’re trying to market your business online, SEO School is a pretty damn useful book to own.

And no, I’m not getting an affiliate kickback for this review. Nor am I trying to butter Naomi up so she’ll link back to me and a bunch of small business owners will come beating down my door wanting to hire me for my WordPress skills.

I simply thought you’d like to know that among the 10 or so billion ebooks out there claiming to show you how Search Engine Optimization works, this one actually does.

Here are 3 quick tips for all you microbusiness website owners to keep your site looking updated as we kick off 2009:

  1. Copyright notice. If your site has a © 2008 mark on it, now is the time to update it to 2009. It may seem mundane but people notice these things.
  2. Latest News. If you post news on your site it’s time to archive 2008’s news articles and start a new page for 2009. If you’re running a WordPress blog it’ll do this for you, but for all you static website owners, you’ll probably need to do it manually.
  3. Your domain name. Before some unscrupulous domain thief nabs your domain out from under you, you might want to make a note of the date your domain name expires. .co.uk domain owners can visit Nominet and enter their domain name into the Whois search box. For most other domains you can go to Internic’s site, or contact your Web hosting company to check for you.

This will only take you half an hour so do it now before you forget. I’m serious. Get busy…
