How to be a successful blogger

Become a successful blogger in 3 steps

April 19, 2009 · 3 comments

I read a lot of blogs about blogging and on the whole they’re a complete waste of time. In the time I’ve spent reading about being a better blogger I could have launched 5 niche websites and be making $1000 a month in passive income.

So if you must start a blog, I’ve devised a way to save you the trouble of reading hundreds of worthless blog posts before understanding what it takes to become successful.

All you need to do is follow these 3 easy steps:

  1. Post lists. It doesn’t matter what they’re about or whether they relate to the topic of your blog. Just post lots of lists and you’ll get lots of traffic (see, this is a list. I’ve learned so much).
  2. Give something away. Want more RSS subscribers or Twitter followers? Give something away. The ever-popular iPod or a free eBook are two giveaway ideas to get you started.
  3. Follow the crowd. Find 10 bloggers with blogs just like yours (shouldn’t be hard) and comment like crazy whenever they post something new. Then post something virtually identical on your own blog and watch how the crowd follows you.

There you have it. Now you can either go forth and litter the Web with yet another boring blog. Or you could stop for a second and do something worthwhile that people will actually benefit from. Your choice.

Great tips. They have definitely worked for me right along with consistency.

Well Dave i hate being a pain but i’ll have to disagree. If you want to be a moderate blogger then you have to follow the crowd. If you want a chance on being outstanding then i’d have to say be passionate and do the one thing that hasn’t been done. I am always working on both with the latter lacking too much ;)

I’ve had great results from list posts followed by submitting them to Reddit.
