5 days ago I set out to make my blog, and yours, better places for our readers to visit.
If, like me you have a day job and a small business on the side, you don’t have time for a very limited number of marketing activities.
My plan is to use 5 methods to make my blog a better place. It’ll work for yours too.
Today’s lesson – Use the tools at your disposal
As a blogger, you probably have a very messy database of people who influence your business, and you probably don’t use it to its full potential. For example:
- You have Facebook friends, many of whom are probably friends because of your blog
- People who have subscribed to receive the newsletter you never quite get round to publishing.
- Twitter followers are waiting for you to say something important.
- RSS subscribers signed up because they actually find you interesting.
- Your inbox is full of emails from people you’ve quoted, worked for, worked with and received comments from.
Each of these contact sources may only have a handful of people in it but adding them together into a useable system will bring you Internet fame and glory. Each time you publish something good, these are the people who need to know about it.
Today’s homework: Create a system to notify people when you post information they will find useful. Use Facebook, Twitter, RSS and email to spread the word in an organized and non-spammy manner. WordPress also has a bunch of tools to help you keep track of things. When you’re done, please share your thoughts in the comments.
